How do I use the Search feature?

You can search based on the identifying information you know regarding the individual or group you are searching for.

For example, it could be as little as knowing that the individual's last name begins with a "B". To begin your search, click to open the dropdown menu under the phrase "Search Criteria" to choose the piece of identifying information you want to work with, such as "first name", "last name", "division", etc.

Then, click to open the drop down menu to the right of the first menu to choose how you want the system to search, based on the identifying information (such as "begins with", "ends with", "contains", etc.).

Finally, based on what you entered in the first two boxes, enter the information you know in the last box to complete the search criteria. For example, if you chose "last name" in the first box and "begins with" in the second box, the third box would have to be a letter, like "B". However, you can enter an entire word, name, or phrase into this box as well, if appropriate.

When you begin entering information into the first search box, a second row of search will appear. If you want to refine your initial search, you can enter your additional criteria in the second row.

Getting the most out of this search feature

You have a number of criteria that can be used in searching for one or more learners, such as

In situations where you may not be sure of a learner's exact information, you can chose a search criteria, such as "first name", "last name", etc, and set the second drop-down menu to an option such as "contains", "begins with", or "ends with".

If you want your search to bring back a complete list of all learners, you can pick a criteria that all learners will definitely have, such as "screen name", "first name", "last name", "email", or "account ID" and choose "is not empty" in the second drop down menu.

One advantage to having your staff use your organization's email address to create their accounts is that you can set the search criteria to "Email", the second drop down menu to "contains", and the last box to the common ending of your organization's email address, such as "@myschool.com". This would bring back results for all accounts based on that email address.
